Wallenius Marine Selects Oceanbird Wing Sails for Multi-Fuel Car Carrier
The Swedish ship operator will fit two Oceanbird wing sails onto M/V Way Forward, marking its maiden commercial deployment of wind-assisted propulsion.

Wallenius Marine has ordered two wing sails from Oceanbird for installation aboard its multi-fuel car carrier, M/V Way Forward. The installation will represent the shipping company's first commercial deployment of wind-assisted propulsion technology.
Announced on 1 September, the integration of the rigid wing sails is intended to further improve the vessel's Carbon Intensity Indicator rating. The carrier already holds an 'A' rating, which is the highest category achievable under the operational efficiency framework.
The addition of the aerodynamic sails is projected to support the vessel's energy efficiency as ship operators face tightening regulatory and environmental standards across international trades.
Johan Mattsson, Chief Executive Officer of Wallenius Marine, stated that the company is convinced wind propulsion will play an important role in the future of the maritime sector as it pursues lower emissions.
