Harvest seasonality
Northern Hemisphere exports peak from late summer into autumn, while South American volumes concentrate in the first half of the calendar year. The alternation creates a recurring seasonal rhythm in Panamax and Supramax employment.
Principal routes
The US Gulf and Pacific Northwest, Brazil's Santos and northern arc ports, Argentina's Up River terminals, and the Black Sea are the main loading regions. Asia, North Africa and the Middle East dominate demand.

Crop size, currency moves that shift export competitiveness between origins, river draft on the Mississippi and Paraná, and trade policy all reroute cargoes between origins — and route length matters more than volume for freight demand.
