Marine technology developer Alfa Laval has launched a new exhaust gas steam boiler, named the Hukka-5, engineered to improve waste heat recovery and fuel efficiency onboard passenger ships.

Designed specifically for the operational profiles of cruise vessels and passenger ferries, the system features an inverted, downward natural circulation design. This architecture enables the capture of exhaust gas thermal energy while limiting the overall spatial footprint of the machinery inside the vessel.

By reclaiming thermal energy from engine exhaust gases, the equipment is structured to cut overall fuel usage and decrease carbon dioxide emissions from marine operations.

Alfa Laval noted that the newly introduced Hukka-5 boiler also incorporates seamless integration capabilities with vessel electrical systems.
