The Baltic Exchange's main dry bulk freight index extended its downward movement on Monday, recording losses for a second consecutive session. The composite indicator, which monitors rates across key vessel segments moving raw commodities, fell by approximately 4.6 percent.

Following the single-day contraction, the overall index settled at 3,268 points. This latest decline establishes the benchmark at its lowest level since September 1.

Weakness in the larger vessel classes drove the broader market retreat. The capesize index, which assesses the performance of bulkers typically transporting 150,000-tonne cargoes such as iron ore and coal, suffered a significant downturn.

Over the course of the trading session, the capesize measure tumbled 7.5 percent to close at 5,351 points, spearheading the day's downward pressure across the dry bulk freight market.
