Global shipyard contracting activity remains firm as Chinese operator China United Lines commits to high-capacity container tonnage.
Global shipyard orderbooks have maintained an upward trajectory as shipowners continue to place fresh construction contracts across the commercial maritime sector.
In its latest weekly market report, shipbroking house Banchero Costa pointed to a sustained inflow of newly finalized construction deals entering the market.
Substantial investment emerged in the container sector, where Chinese liner operator China United Lines concluded an agreement for two large boxships. The order covers the construction of two 14,000 TEU units to be built at China's Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard.
According to reported details of the transaction, the vessels were contracted at an estimated price of approximately USD 150 million each, underlining ongoing capital deployment into high-capacity fleet expansion.
