CMA CGM Shifts Portugal East Coast Service to Standalone Operation
The French ocean carrier will deploy two 1,380 TEU vessels on its intra-North Europe loop connecting Portugal with the UK and the Netherlands.

French container line CMA CGM is set to transition its Portugal East Coast (PGE) service into a fully standalone operation beginning in October 2026. The restructuring is designed to expand capacity while preserving scheduled connections across intra-North Europe trade lanes.
The carrier stated that the updated operational structure will maintain regular maritime transport links between Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
To support the standalone loop, the 1,380 TEU feeder vessel Containerships Stellar will be deployed on the route. The ship is slated to operate alongside its sister vessel, Containerships Arctic.
The deployment of both sister ships on the intra-European network reflects CMA CGM's strategy to adjust regional tonnage and secure vessel capacity between Iberian ports and key Northern European hubs.
