Marflet Marine chemical tanker fitted with four bound4blue suction sails
Installation of four 22-metre eSAIL units on the Santiago I is completed following shipyard works in Zhoushan and Antwerp.

Spanish wind-assisted propulsion developer bound4blue has completed the installation of four of its proprietary eSAIL suction sails on board the chemical tanker Santiago I, operated by domestic shipping firm Marflet Marine.
The final deployment of the four 22-metre units took place at the EDR Antwerp Shipyard in Belgium. This followed initial technical integration work carried out at IMC Shipyard in Zhoushan, China, where the tanker underwent preparatory retrofitting to become wind-ready.
The deployment stems from a commercial agreement signed by the two companies in May 2024. Following the conclusion of engineering works, the vessel has now entered operational commercial service with the wind systems active.
Performance estimates from the equipment designer indicate that the auxiliary propulsion technology is expected to cut the vessel's annual energy demand by roughly 10% to 15%, depending on operating profiles and prevailing weather conditions encountered on its routes.
