Panama Canal Modifies Transit Booking System Amid Strong Demand
Operators can now secure multiple transit slots on the same date, though draught and transit limits remain active.

The Panama Canal has introduced modifications to its transit reservation process in response to sustained heavy demand across the waterway. Under the revised arrangement, commercial customers will be permitted to obtain more than one booking slot on the same date.
The adjustment offers additional scheduling leeway for shipping companies seeking to coordinate vessel passages through the critical maritime corridor. The change comes during a period of ongoing pressure on available passage dates.
However, the revision to booking procedures does not signal an end to operational constraints on the waterway. Daily transit limitations that cap the total number of vessel passages remain strictly in effect.
In addition to transit limits, draught restrictions also continue to apply to vessels using the canal. Operators navigating the waterway must continue to plan their cargo loads and schedules around these ongoing restrictions.
