QatarEnergy has conducted an open transit through the Strait of Hormuz using one of its liquefied natural gas carriers, representing the energy company's first such voyage in nearly six weeks.

The operation was carried out by the QatarEnergy-controlled carrier Al Marrouna, which moved through the strategic waterway with its Automatic Identification System switched on throughout the passage.

The decision to maintain active transponders contrasts with navigation practices seen in the area over recent weeks. A considerable volume of commercial vessel traffic transiting the strait had recently resorted to dark-mode navigation by turning off tracking systems.

Following its transit through the strait, the Al Marrouna is heading toward its scheduled destination at Port Qasim in Pakistan.
