KMTC Halts Special Cargo Shipments to Japan for Silver Week
Korea Marine Transport Co. will implement a temporary suspension on dangerous goods, out-of-gauge, and reefer cargo to Japan during the September holiday period.

South Korean ocean carrier Korea Marine Transport Co. (KMTC) has announced a temporary suspension of selected special cargo shipments headed to Japan in alignment with the upcoming Silver Week holiday period.
The operational restrictions are scheduled to take effect on 18 September 2026 and will remain in place through 25 September 2026, covering the duration of the Japanese national holiday corridor.
Under the temporary policy, KMTC will restrict three specific freight classifications: dangerous goods (DG), out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo, and refrigerated (reefer) containers.
The temporary curbs reflect standard logistical adjustments made by regional carriers to manage terminal operations and handling constraints at Japanese destination ports during periods of reduced holiday staffing.
