ORLEN and Regional Partners Launch Baltic Energy Initiative
Polish energy major ORLEN has partnered with 13 regional organisations to bolster Baltic Sea energy security, infrastructure, and alternative energy development.

Polish energy corporation ORLEN has established a cross-border partnership with 13 energy enterprises and industry organisations across Northern and Central Europe to form the Baltic Energy Initiative. The alliance is structured to pool regional capabilities and execute joint ventures across the Baltic Sea zone.
The framework aims to reinforce regional energy security, upgrade infrastructure resilience, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the Baltic energy market. Participating entities will collaborate on identifying and executing cross-border projects that address ongoing supply and transition demands.
Key focus areas for the newly formed coalition span a broad spectrum of power generation and lower-emission fuel technologies. Workstreams will concentrate on the expansion of offshore wind generation, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and bioLNG distribution networks, alongside the development of hydrogen supply chains and carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems.
In addition to renewables and alternative gas infrastructure, the initiative encompasses nuclear energy developments, including conventional nuclear installations and small modular reactors (SMRs). Ireneusz Fąfara, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Management Board of ORLEN, noted that the scale of contemporary challenges facing the energy industry necessitates cooperative cross-border solutions across the region.
