Alkagesta Secures Access to NATO Pipeline Network for Aviation Fuel Supply

Commodities and marine fuels trader Alkagesta has secured commercial access to the NATO Central European Pipeline System, marking the company's inaugural expansion into inland pipeline logistics and aviation fuel distribution.

The Central European Pipeline System encompasses a 5,300-kilometre distribution network spanning Northwest Europe, linking key seaports, refineries, and air bases. Originally established in the late 1950s to guarantee military fuel mobility during conflict, approximately 90 percent of the pipeline system's operational capacity is now dedicated to approved commercial distribution under strict compliance and security vetting protocols.

Deliveries by Alkagesta through the network are scheduled to begin in the spring. Under the supply framework, the company will transport conventional jet fuel blended with a 2 percent sustainable aviation fuel component to major international air transport hubs, including Frankfurt-am-Main and Brussels.

The agreement represents a major operational transition for Alkagesta, which was founded less than a decade ago. The trading firm established its presence primarily as a high-volume marine fuels supplier across the Mediterranean before expanding physical and trading activities to Singapore.

Alkagesta Chief Executive Orkhan Rustamov stated that securing access to the strategic European fuel network enables the business to provide sustainable fuel to commercial airlines across Northwest Europe, reflecting the firm's broader growth strategy across regional energy logistics.

The infrastructure move takes place amid heightened strategic attention on European energy transit resilience following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The development also follows an announcement late last year by Poland committing 5.5 billion euros to connect to the NATO pipeline network.

For marine fuel buyers and dry bulk vessel operators, Alkagesta's integration into high-security pipeline assets illustrates how major bunker traders are diversifying into multi-modal transport fuels. As environmental regulations tighten across both shipping and aviation, trading desks with verified compliance credentials and shared blending infrastructure are increasingly bridging marine bunkering operations with inland liquid logistics.
