Bunker Price Volatility Projected to Continue Through October, Says MABUX
Marine fuel markets face sustained turbulence as geopolitical instability and supply constraints offset softening global demand expectations.
Global marine fuel markets are set to experience continued price volatility through October, according to an assessment by marine bunker exchange platform MABUX.
Sergey Ivanov, Director at MABUX, noted that trading conditions throughout September were predominantly shaped by persistent geopolitical uncertainties and supply-side friction. These fundamental pressures sustained upward momentum across key bunker benchmarks over the course of the month.
Upward pressure on prices was largely driven by regional conflict in the Middle East and related concerns surrounding vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Supply availability was further constrained by reduced petroleum product outflows from both the Gulf and Russia, leading to tighter market balances for marine distillates and very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
These bullish catalysts were partially mitigated by weaker outlooks for overall global oil consumption, which capped potential price spikes. However, with supply limits and geopolitical risks remaining unresolved, MABUX expects these opposing market forces to keep bunker values volatile in the weeks ahead.
