Container Schedule Reliability Slips to 56.4% as Delays Absorb 2.3M TEU
Mounting port congestion and extended carrier transit times have removed approximately 2.3 million TEU of nominal capacity from the global container fleet, according to Sea-Intelligence.

Deteriorating liner schedule reliability and operational bottlenecks have absorbed an estimated 2.3 million TEU of vessel capacity from the global container market. The effective supply contraction stems from compounding port delays and longer voyage durations that prevent tonnage from returning promptly to regular rotation.
According to the latest Global Liner Performance report from maritime consultancy Sea-Intelligence, overall schedule reliability slipped to 56.4% during July. This performance stands as the weakest registered since the introduction of the current ocean carrier alliance structures.
Analytical data further indicates that the July reliability figure represents the lowest level recorded since February 2025. In tandem with the declining on-time percentages, late-arriving container ships faced average arrival delays extending past six full days.
Aside from the immediate operational disruption that followed the onset of the Red Sea crisis in January 2024, delays of this magnitude underscore the persistent logistical strain currently curbing available fleet efficiency across global container networks.
