Norden Completes First RSB Maritime Book and Claim Transaction with Microsoft
Danish dry bulk and tanker owner Norden has registered the first verified maritime carbon reductions through the RSB Book & Claim system alongside Microsoft.

Danish shipping group Norden has concluded the first verified maritime emissions reduction transaction using the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) Book & Claim registry. The trial was carried out in partnership with technology firm Microsoft and the RSB.
The successful transaction follows a pilot project initially announced by the shipping company in May. The mechanism was created to allow cargo owners and commercial charterers to trace and claim emissions reductions associated with sustainable maritime fuels.
According to Norden, the completed pilot proves that businesses can effectively address and account for their ocean freight emissions today. The book-and-claim model avoids the limitation of requiring sustainable marine fuels to be physically supplied to the specific vessels carrying a customer's cargo.
The system has been developed to serve both direct freight customers and broader supply chain clients seeking credible carbon accounting solutions despite the uneven global availability of low-carbon bunkering infrastructure.
