Everllence has confirmed the completion and verification of research and development testing for its B&W G80 ethanol-capable marine engine. The evaluation process took place at the Engine and Machinery division of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

The development marks the first Everllence B&W G80 unit engineered to utilise ethanol as a fuel source. The successful completion of the test programme represents an initial step in validating the application of ethanol within deep-sea commercial propulsion.

The engine is destined for installation on a Very Large Ore Carrier ordered by Shandong Shipping. The propulsion system will be fitted on the third vessel in a 10-ship VLOC newbuilding series commissioned by the shipping group.

The project highlights ongoing technical trials within the large-scale dry bulk segment as owners and marine engineers explore alternative fuel configurations for high-capacity bulk tonnage.
