Transpacific and Asia-Europe Container Freight Rates Diverge
A widening spread has emerged between major container corridors as transpacific spot pricing firms while Asia-Europe trades face ongoing weakness.

Recent weekly freight assessments across major container shipping corridors have highlighted an expanding divergence between key trade lanes. The latest market evaluations show contrasting conditions along long-haul routes, driven primarily by relative firming across transpacific lanes while Asia-Europe trade lanes remain under sustained downward pressure.
This split performance between the two primary East-West arterial networks has created a fractured picture across global rate tracking services, leaving composite market gauges without a singular directional trend.
Reflecting these divided fundamentals, China-based assessments demonstrated upward movement over the weekly cycle. Both the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index and the China Containerized Freight Index registered gains, buoyed by stronger support on North American routes.
In contrast, other key industry measures captured the softening environment on European destinations. The Ningbo Containerized Freight Index and the Freightos Baltic Index both recorded losses, while Drewry’s World Container Index held flat amidst the counterbalancing rate movements across global regions.
