Yanmar Secures DNV Type Approval for Marine Hydrogen Fuel Cell System
Classification society DNV has granted Type Approval to Yanmar Power Solutions for its GH-FC series maritime hydrogen fuel cell system.

Yanmar Power Solutions Co. has obtained Type Approval from classification society DNV for its maritime hydrogen fuel cell system, clearing a key regulatory hurdle for the commercial rollout of the technology in commercial shipping.
The certification applies to Yanmar's GH-FC series. The manufacturer stated that securing DNV Type Approval validates the system's compliance with established safety and engineering benchmarks, providing naval architects, shipbuilders, and vessel operators with greater regulatory certainty while lowering the administrative burden required for project-specific certifications.
Masaru Hirose, President and Representative Director of Yanmar Power Solutions, identified the milestone as a significant step forward in the company's efforts to scale hydrogen-based propulsion and power generation technologies across the international maritime industry.
The development builds upon Yanmar's prior operational deployment and operational trials of maritime fuel cell systems conducted in Japan, as shipowners continue to assess alternative energy systems to meet emissions targets.
